About the Skin Your skin is made up of two layers, the epidermis and dermis. The top layer is called the epidermis, and is approximately 1/1000 of an inch thick. Since this micro thin layer is directly exposed to the effects of the environment (i.e., sun and pollution), it is frequently damaged, obscuring the skin’s clarity, tone, texture, and color. Exfoliation rids the skin of dead cells by removing this top layer. The second layer, the dermis, also affects the appearance of your skin. A healthy life style, consisting of exercise, a balanced diet, adequate rest, the use of sun blocks, avoidance of smoking, and limited alcohol consumption helps to maintain the dermis.
